Stratoconception? process description |
|
The system is designed as a rapid prototyping process by means of layers of the solid/solid type, consisting in decomposing by calculation the CAD model of the part into a set of elementary and simple layers called "strata" reinforced by the introduction of so-called inserts. The elementary layers are laid out and manufactured out of a material provided in sheet form using high-speed micro-milling or laser cutting.
The strata are then assembled using inserts to compose the final object. Assembly is taken into account when the object is being decomposed and contributes to the mechanical solidity of the parts.
The process is very fast and very well adapted to models, prototypes and also to tools. No restriction is imposed on internal or external shape, material type or size.

Advantages :
- very low cost of the machine (2,5 axis)
-
material supply made easy as the same types of easy-to-find sheets are used
-
process adapted for school
-
easy communication : the system was developed in France (research team working in Saint-Di?-des-Vosges) and every step of the process is accessible, it is possible to develop specific applications (ex: Orthostrato? for prothesists and orthopaedists,CASPER for PSA)
-
little work to prepare the files to be treated
-
low experience level required for the operator
-
easily integrated into an environment of the R&D department type
-
various types of parts: mock-up, functional prototypes, moulds, models, mechanical parts, tools...
- short production time
-
low cost for the manufacturing of parts
-
process not polluting which optimizes the material and allows the waste recycling
Originalities :
- 3D layers manufacture form plates
- assembly of strata by inserts (internal or external of the part (bridges))
- possibility of jointing complex strata
- 3 possibilities for stratification
- additive process, (material saving), machining only the shapes of the edge's strata
- need low power for high speed milling (600W)
- various materials in sheets (wood, plastics, metals, ...) possiblity of good material
- small and large dimensions of parts (to 2000*3000 mm, and more), no limite for Z axis
- no support (cf Stereolithography)
- internal modelling of tools
- direct integration of cooling channel in tools, and very optimised
- sensors integration in prototypes or tools
3 modes of stratification :
The 3D stratification method is a major innovation of Stratoconception? process.
